The guest posts posted last week is on two very, very different subject matters – the Greek Economic Crisis and the eleventh season of Idols SA! This week I had a chance to choose my own topic – so obviously I chose New Horizons and Pluto. I’m still amazed by the level of detail the flyby was able to capture. And, of course, there’s the giant “heart” on the planet.

I am finished with my Camp NaNoWriMo word count goal! I am waiting to see how much I get written over the weekend before I validate my word count, though. Instead of working on one project, I found myself flitting from one thing to the next. So I can’t say “here’s my finished project”, but I did get quite a lot done. I think it was a good warmup for November.

Today is 1 July, which means Camp NaNoWriMo kicks off today - and I have 31 days in which to write 20 000 words as a warm-up to November’s NaNoWriMo.

Apart from the above articles, I wrote a short non-fiction piece (which was accepted) for CANSA/KANSA’s anthology which is to be published later this year. I’m not sure if it will also be available in e-book format, though. This piece is probably the most personal I’ve written; as it deals with my mother’s cancer and her death. (As always, I write about happy topics.) Luckily it turned out to be more bittersweet than simply sad. This piece was also written in Afrikaans.

And yet more news!

At long last not only my website, but also my Facebook page is up and running. I’m still finding my feet with the latter, however, though I’m sure I’ll learn how to make the best use of it quite quickly.

I’ve also been away on vacation for the first time in a couple of years - just what the doctor ordered. And just what was needed to get the creativity flowing again.

What I’m Planning for Camp NaNoWriMo

April’s Camp NaNoWriMo was really productive, so I’ve decided to up my game this time around with July’s CampNaNoWriMo. I reached my word count goal of 10 000 words a lot easier than I had expected last time, so I’ve decided to set the bar at 20 000 words for July. Which is about 650 a day and should have me well on my way to writing 50 000 in November.

 

I am not going to work on just one project, however. My main project is a collection of short stories (*gasp* did I actually admit that in public?) – a project that I have been keeping under the radar for the most part. While I probably won’t put up parts of the stories to read, I am going to give some of the inspiration behind the stories. 

I also have quite a bit of revisions to do during July, as well as another huge project which I am absolutely giddy about(watch this space).

A New Website and It’s Time for Camp NaNoWriMo! (Again)

I’ve made a new website! The new website is more CV-like and contains the links to all of my articles and other published work. I’m also working on a Facebook page where I can put all the links and articles while not spamming all the people on my Facebook profile.

Camp NaNoWriMo

It’s astounding how time flies! In exactly one month there will be another Camp NaNoWriMo to take part in before NaNoWriMo which takes place in November every year.

As April’s Camp NaNoWriMo was very productive and I actually fared much better than I had anticipated, I decided that taking part in July’s camp as well will be a good step to keep up my writing momentum.

There are a few projects I’m quietly working on — which mostly includes short stories — and I’ll use Camp NaNoWriMo to focus on these. Only one of these stories have anything to do with the novel I’ll be working on during NaNoWriMo.

And in other news

This month I’ll be hard at work on a short story I intend to enter for an anthology, at least two articles (outside of the normal guest articles), while also working on some more worldbuilding and resources posts for the blog. I’ll also still write for Flash! Friday as often as I can — which I hope is every week. So, all in all, I think June will turn out to be a warm-up session for July.
