On Juggling, Pirates and Crutches

Pirates
It’s amazing how you sometimes forget about songs you have in your media library. One of the songs I had completely forgotten about until it suddenly sprang into my mind after listening “Lower the Sails” by Coole Park was “Never Return to the Sea” by The Whiskey Boys. This haunting, song sung by a pirate (not quite the “And it is, it is a glorious thing to be a Pirate King”* kind of song) really tugs at the heartstrings without being melodramatic. You can find The Whiskey Boys site over here and have a listen tothe song as well.

Juggling and Crutches, aka, so, what happened to me that I’ve been so quiet?

In short – life got really, really busy these last two weeks. And I ended up on crutches with a severely bruised knee after bumping it on a cinema chair (It was dark and I had gotten up to tell the staff that the movie was blurry, yes-even-with-the-3D-glasses-on-do-you-really-think-I’m-such-an-idiot). What can I say – if you do something, do it properly. And it really was an epic, epic bruise. But it’s getting better at least. *Unable to do happy dance.* That, coupled with quite a few nights of working late… you get the picture.

I really hope that I am able to get all my stuff back on track over the weekend – and get back to actually juggling the balls and not hitting myself on the head when I drop one.

It’s not all bad news, though. I have sent off a flash piece for possible publication and I’m busy with another one. I’m also busy with an Airtha story and fleshing out the Rún. And, of course, there’s Project Alpha – my studies. With the whole knee/doctors/hospital/working late thing I’ve fallen behind on my schedule and really need to catch up this weekend.

But, I leave you with a video of "Oh, better far to live and die ...I am a pirate king!" from Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance.

*If you have never listened to/watched The Pirates on Penzance, you’re missing out.
